Southport F.C.
The FC Southport ( officially: Southport Football Club ) is an English football club. Until 1978 the club was part of the Football League and is currently only in the central region of the leagues system in England, the Football Conference active.
History
The Southport FC was founded in 1881. In 1911, the team became a founding member of the Central League, in which they took ten years. 1918, the Club of Vulcan Motor Engineering was acquired, so that the team henceforth aground as Southport Vulcan. Three years later, the team was inducted into the Football League and joined the newly formed third-rate Third Division North. The League was a member of the team until 1958, as a result of the merger of the Third Division North to the Third Division South, the clubs from the back of the leagues came to the newly created Fourth Division. 1967 succeeded as runners-up behind Stockport County to return to the third division, three years later, however, was the renewed decline in the fourth league. 1973 succeeded as champion again the rise, but the this time followed the direct re- descent. 1978 took the team for the third time in a row, only the penultimate place in the fourth division and was subsequently voted out of the Football League from the league and replaced by Wigan Athletic.
The FC Southport came in the fifth rate Northern Premier League. There, the team failed to qualify for the 1979 newly created National Conference and played therefore only on the sixth-highest level of play. It took until 1993 before the club rising to become champion of the League in the fifth division. In 1998, the team the final of the FA Trophy, but failed in Wembley with a 0-1 defeat to Cheltenham Town.
2003 FC Southport dismounted in the Northern Premier League, however, qualified in 2004 for the newly established, sechstklassige Conference North. As the first champion of the League, the club managed to return to the Conference National. There, the team played directly against relegation, which could not be avoided as the second to last of the season 2006/ 07.
