Land's End

Land's End ( Cornish Penn Vlas [KK ], Pen an Vlas [ UCR ] ) located near Penzance, Cornwall, is a locality and the eponymous headland. The tip of the peninsula is the most westerly point of England on the main island of Great Britain. About 40 kilometers south-east is located on The Lizard Peninsula the Lizard Point, the southernmost point of Great Britain, almost in the neighborhood. The approximately 45 kilometers south-west of Land's End located Isles of Scilly are the most westerly point of England. On a clear day you can see them from about 60 feet high cliff overlooking the Atlantic from. Furthermore, the visible about two kilometers south to Longship Lighthouse, which is located on a barrier, consisting of quartzite and serpentinite island.

Land's End is because of the geographical location often the starting point for walks ( on the South West Coast Path ), bike tours, travel, etc. across the UK. The counterpart to this is John o 'Groats, the ( allegedly) most northerly point on the main island of Great Britain. Long distances are often described in the UK with the metaphor " from Land's End to John o 'Groats ".

Land's End is now privately owned. There is a tourist oriented theme park located with a hotel, shops and among others some ships such as the fishing boat Confide (PZ -741 ) and the RNLI lifeboat RNLB James & Catherine Macfarlane which can be visited. In the immediate vicinity of the Airport Land's End is located.

Before and in the cliffs is due to the exposed position a ship graveyard. The wreck of the stranded freighter in 2003 RMS Mülheim home port Duisburg is located a few hundred meters north of the peak, many other sunken ships lie in close proximity unaffected beneath the surface and attract divers.
