Landesstraße

Country roads are a category of road in Germany, Austria and Italy (South Tyrol ), the easement shall be borne by the respective German, Austrian state or the respective Italian province as a rule. In the Principality of Liechtenstein, a country road is a road whose construction obligation lies with the state of Liechtenstein.

It is usually around streets, beyond their catchment area in Germany over the territory of a county or independent city in Austria and Liechtenstein on a municipality.

Germany

A country road is less significant than a Federal road, but more significant than a county road. The classification as a country road is made by dedication. In the Free States of Bavaria and Saxony - but not in the Free State of Thuringia - country roads of derogation referred to as state roads.

Designation

The short name of a country road consists of the preceding capital letter L and a sequential number (eg, L 1, L 83, L 262 or L 3190 ). The state highways in Saxony are abbreviated in accordance with the capital letter S (S 190), the state roads in Bavaria with the letters St ( St 2108 ).

The chainage occurs with station sign. Beginning and end of the country road sections are denoted by so-called node numbers. This localization is clearly what is important for example for the quick help in case of accidents. On the shield the node numbers are indicated at the top. These also indicate the direction where the deployment numbers are. In the example of the image that is left of No. 6608 039 6608 023 by right. The bottom right of the sign you can see the so-called stationing direction. It runs in this example, from right to left. It indicates in which direction the road miles are counted.

In some states, section numbers are used on the station sign for easy identification of road sections.

Properties

In the physical structure state roads tend to have a slightly lower state of development as national roads, the roadway cross-sections are generally smaller. In individual cases, the expansion, however, can vary depending on construction and traffic importance.

Due to the distribution of funding the states are trying, as a rule, to rededicate the highly developed state roads to national roads, so that expansion and maintenance are provided from the federal budget. However, the main roads are generally connections between major cities ( regional centers ) and run in a star shape to this. In circular connections of satellite towns with each other usually no dedication is to achieve as a federal road, as it is difficult to carry out additional short stub streets of the big cities to pass current highways in federal jurisdiction.

Situation in the new Länder

The GDR divided the state roads downstream highways in such first and second order ( LIO, LiIO ). After German reunification, these roads were usually without regard to their state to state roads. Thuringia changed as the LIO 27 in the L 1027 to land and secondary roads were there accordingly 2000s numbers.

Due to the economical design of the non-urban road networks in the GDR, there are now in the new federal states some farm roads and streets with waterborne topcoat. Sometimes allowed to expire one of two parallel streets or because of their minor importance for traffic connections between them. So there are formal state roads, such as the L 208 between Burkersroda and Balgstädt in Saxony -Anhalt or the L 1062 between Wittersroda and Lengefeld in Thuringia, which do not meet the requirements. The development of these compounds is to be expected due to lack of financial resources of the countries and their minor importance for traffic barely, and usually the reclassification is sought.

Italy

The Strada Provinciale ( SP) are referred to as South Tyrol provincial roads (LS ).

Liechtenstein

As the state roads roads are referred to, the easement in the country of Liechtenstein lies. In the property of the Principality of Liechtenstein are located 105 km paved and 25 km unpaved roads.

Austria

In Austria today are all higher-level roads, except those managed by ASFINAG motorways and highways, state roads. The former federal highways B are state roads, as they fall within the competence of the federal states since 2002.

The designation is indicated for former federal highways, except in Vorarlberg, with the earlier prefix B. The other state roads are designated with a preceding L. Road signs show the keys are not given in contrast to federal highways A and S mostly. Designations with little numbers indicate a higher importance on the road network. The term formerly used in several states of higher-ranking state roads as country's main roads ( LH ) is found occasionally even in street maps and local plans.

Poland

In Poland, the names of the national highways that meet the German roads, Droga Krajowa, which can be literally translated as " country road ".
