Landsat 7

Landsat 7 is a started on 15 April 1999 Earth observation satellite of the U.S. air and space agency NASA. The satellite is the seventh version in the series of Landsat satellites. It is equipped with multispectral ETM sensor whose resolution is severely restricted since 2003 because of a mechanical problem.

Landsat 7 is part of the Earth Observing System ( EOS ), a comprehensive number of missions, long-term research program of NASA.

The majority of the Earth's surface, NASA World Wind and online map portals such as Google Maps ( Earth), MSN Maps or Yahoo Maps is represented by processed Landsat 7 satellite images.

Orbit

The satellite moves in a polar, sun-synchronous orbit (SSO). A characteristic of this orbit is that the satellite passes each day at the same time a point on the earth. Therefore, such earth orbit are frequently used for meteorological satellites and Earth observation satellites.
