Längelmäki

Längelmäki [ ɛlmæki countries ː ] is a former municipality in Finland. Today the former municipality between cities Jämsä and Orivesi is divided.

Längelmäki located on the border of the provinces Pirkanmaa and Central Finland. The community center was the place Länkipohja, which is ( 26 km west ) located halfway between Orivesi to Jämsä (27 km east ). Overall, the municipality covered an area of 496.9 km ² (of which 73.3 km ² inland waters). The municipality had 1,658 inhabitants Längelmäki last.

Längelmäki was released in 1640 as an independent parish from Orivesi and initially covered the chapel community Kuorevesi, which in 1881 started his own business. At the beginning of 2007, the municipality Längelmäki was dissolved; the western part of the municipality came to the city Orivesi, the eastern part, including the community center and two -thirds of the population of the city Jämsä. Thus, the area between the landscapes Pirkanmaa and Central Finland was divided. At the time of its municipal independence Längelmäki had been one of Pirkanmaa.

The main attraction of Längelmäki is the wooden church from 1772.
