Lappmarken
Lappmark 's an archaic Swedish term for areas that the Sami people ( lobes) are inhabited. Etymologically corresponds to " Lappmark " the Norwegian name " Finnmark " ( " Lapp " and " Finn " were often used interchangeably ).
" Lappmark " could be for the entire Sámi settlement area, which in addition to actual landscape ( landskap ) Lapland also included parts of Västerbotten, Jämtland and Härjedalen, used either synonymous with " Lapland " or collectively. In this sense, the concept of Sami self-description corresponds Sápmi. For the Lappmark were in the Swedish Empire until the early 20th century, special laws.
Furthermore, the term " Lappmark " was the plural for subdivisions of Sami settlement area. To a Lappmark each owned the river basin, including the surrounding areas ( in rough Lapland rivers were long the main roads ). The Sámi settlement area was divided into the following six Lappmarken:
- Åsele - Lappmark on Ångerman River
- Lycksele Lappmark at the Ume River
- Pite Pite Lappmark on - flus
- Lule Lule River at Lappmark
- Torne Lappmark the Torne River
- Kemi - Lappmark at Kemi River
