Larissa, Turkey

Larisa on Hermos (Greek Λάρισα, Λάρισσα ) was an ancient city in Asia Minor landscape Aeolis.

Larisa was located north of the lower reaches of the river Hermus in the Aeolis in Turkey today. Already in Homer mentioned as a town of the Pelasgians, Larisa was conquered by the Greek tribe of the Aeolians and was henceforth the nickname Phrikonis. In the Archaic period (ca. 700-490 BC) Larisa was organized in aiolischen Elfstädtebund, in the 5th century BC in the Delian Confederacy. 399 the city of Thribon was besieged in vain, eventually taken over by Derkylidas 398. In the Hellenistic period ( 332-30 BC) Larisa degenerated to a village.

The identification of Larissa with the ancient town at Buruncuk with a palace, a Megaronkomplex of the 6th century BC, a defensive wall, and a second palace from about 330 BC with 4 Megara is controversial. It could also be the localization at Yanıkköy.
