László Lukács

László Lukács (* November 24, 1850 in Zalatna, Transylvania, † February 23, 1932 in Budapest) was a politician, longtime finance minister and 1912/13, Prime Minister of Hungary.

Life

Lukács studied law at the University of Cluj, and taught as a professor at the Law School in Győr. In 1877 he took over the management of the ore mine his family in Zalatna and since 1878, he worked for the Liberal Party deputy in the Hungarian Parliament. Lukács was 1887-1891 high financial officer, from 1893 to 1895 in the government Wekerle State Secretary for Finance and subsequently in several governments until 1905 Minister of Finance. Following a political break, he was Minister of Finance from 1910 again in the government Károly Khuen Héderváry.

Prime minister

Following the resignation of Khuen Héderváry Lukács was on April 22, 1912 Prime Minister and served concurrently as Minister of the Interior. During his tenure, he fought violently obstruction of the opposition and had to adopt a defensive and an electoral law. Because of gross financial irregularities in the financing of the election campaign of the party he founded the National Labour had left the new party leader István Tisza office on June 10, 1913 Lukács.
