LATAM Airlines Group

The LATAM Airlines Group, formed by the merger of Chile's LAN Airlines and Brazilian TAM Linhas Aéreas.

Business

The new group, which is the largest airline in Latin America and one of the largest in the world, LAN Airlines includes all its subsidiaries were in Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru and LAN Cargo and its subsidiaries, TAM Linhas Aéreas and its subsidiary TAM Airlines and all investments LAN and TAM. Until further notice, all trademarks are obtained. Together, the two airlines (as of 2011) a fleet of 310 aircraft, flying to about 150 destinations in 22 countries in the passenger area. The combined turnover amounted in 2011 to 13.5 billion U.S. dollars, a total of 60 million passengers were transported.

The foundation of the group was given 13 August 2010 announced by both companies. As before, the Chilean antitrust authorities in September 2011, Brazilian authorities have given the green light 14 December 2011 for the merger. The merger was completed in June 2012.

Both companies retained their operation centers Santiago and São Paulo. It was not clear at first, which airline alliance LATAM will join. LAN is currently a member of Oneworld, Star Alliance, TAM. The consent of the Chilean antitrust happened under the condition that the new company has to decide by the end of 2014 for one of the two alliances. TAM decided in March 2013 to join Oneworld in the second quarter of 2014 and to leave the Star Alliance.
