Latina Nuclear Power Plant

F1

Decommissioned Reactors ( gross ):

The nuclear power plant Latina, also nuclear power plant Borgo Sabotino (Italian Centrale Nucleare di Borgo Sabotino ), was the first nuclear power plant in Italy at Borgo Sabotino, Latina, which from 1964 to 1987 was in service until after the referendum of 1987, the nuclear phase-out in Italy regulated, was shut down. Current owners and operators is the Società gestione impianti Nucleari ( SOGIN ).

Reactor

The nuclear power plant consisted of a Latina Magnox reactor (GCR ) with a net electrical output of 153 MW and a gross electrical output of 160 MW. Together with the Garigliano nuclear power plant, it was thus the nuclear power plant with the lowest power in Italy.

History

It was decided to build a British gas -graphite reactor ( Magnox GCR ), which is operated with natural uranium. The contract was awarded to the British Nuclear Power Plant Co. The agreement was concluded on 31 August 1958, when the construction preparations for the power plant had already begun. According to the Treaty, a 200 MW Magnox reactor in Latina and later a structurally identical to the nurses' station Bradwell ( UK ) should be built. Construction of the nuclear reactor was on 1 November 1958 it was built as the first commercial nuclear power plant in Italy. The reactor was first critically on December 27, 1962. On May 12, 1963, the nuclear power plant Latina first synchronized to the power grid, from 1 January 1964, it was in commercial operation until it was finally shut down on 1 December 1987 as the second nuclear power plant in Italy. In 1986, it was last used for the commercial production of electricity. At the time of commissioning, it was the most powerful reactor in Europe. Now on the site of the former nuclear power plant, a 400 MWe strong combined cycle power plant is built. In 2000, the fuel elements were taken from the reactor at a weight of 1,425 tons for reprocessing to England.
