Latvian horse

The Latvian Warmblood is a horse breed from Latvia.

Exterior

The Latvian Warmblood is a heavy horse with a large, often coarse head, strong neck, long back and muscular, broad croup. The approximately 155 to 180 cm tall horse are as riding and draft horse used. Latvian warm-blooded animals are mostly dark bay, black, dun or foxes, occasionally they are also found as mold.

Interior

The Latvian Warmblood has a good-natured and balanced character. They are considered ready to work, affable and patient.

Breeding history

The Latvian Warmblood is a horse breed that originated around 1950, when two Latvian breeders crossed local horses of the "North- forest species " with Oldenburgers, Hanoverians, Holsteiners and friezes. There was a robust breed that can be used in many ways. Since 1952 the "Latvian carriage horse " ( Latvian: Latvijas braucamie, so the breed was called until 1976 ) recognized as a separate breed; since 1976 it is called "Latvian horse breed ".
