Laura Arraya

Laura Arraya ( meanwhile Laura Gildemeister, born January 12, 1964 in Córdoba, Argentina) is a former Peruvian tennis player.

Career

When Laura Arraya was seven years old, her family moved from Argentina to Peru, whose nationality she accepted.

Between 1981 and 1993, played Arraya 34 Grand Slam tournaments. Their best finish at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the quarterfinals at the Wimbledon Championships 1991.

Four professional tournaments could arraya in individual win (1982 in Tokyo, 1984 Miami, 1989 Schenectady and San Juan ), a double (1987 Charleston, together with Tine Scheuer from Denmark).

In the Federation Cup arraya was appointed 1982-1993 16 times in the Peruvian team. She played a total of 28 matches. Twelve of their individual she has won, four lost. Five of her double she has won, lost seven.

In 1984, tennis was demonstration sport at the Summer Olympic Games, arraya played for Peru, but lost her first round match against Renata Sasak from Yugoslavia with 1:6, 6:1, 6:1.

Arrayos mother Alcira arraya already played tennis at a high level, she was the No. 2 of the Argentine rankings. Laura Arrayas brother Pablo Arraya was also a professional tennis player. Laura Arrayo was married since 1984 with Heinz Gildemeister, a Chilean professional tennis player. She wore her husband's family name, and stood in as Laura Gildemeister. Later the couple was divorced and Laura was wearing her maiden name. Arrayo operates today (as of 2013), a tennis school in Lima.
