Le Vieil-Baugé

Le Vieil Baugé was - until 31 December 2012 an independent commune with 1266 inhabitants ( as of 2010) in the department of Maine -et -Loire in the Pays de la Loire.

Since January 1, 2013 Le Vieil Baugé - is part of the newly created municipality of Baugé -en- Anjoun. By this date, the municipalities of Saint -Martin- d'Arcé, Pontigné, Montpollin, Baugé and Le Vieil Baugé - were merged into one commune nouvelle. Le Vieil Baugé - forms after the merger a commune déléguée in this composite.

Geography

Le Vieil Baugé - lies at Couasnon, two kilometers south of the former canton chief town Baugé, who is now also incorporated in Baugé -en- Anjoun.

History

The place was originally called Balgiaco. Many traces of Gallo- Roman life were found. In the 5th century Vieil- Baugé was a chief town in Anjou.
