Leah Hirsig

Lea ( Leah ) Hirsig ( born April 9, 1883 in Trachselwald, Canton Bern, † February 22, 1975 in Meiringen, Switzerland ) was a Switzerland - American, who had with the occultist Aleister Crowley, a daughter (Anna Leah ).

Early life

Hirsig was born in Trachselwald, Bern, Switzerland. Her family moved to New York when she was still a child. She grew up in the city and taught in a high school in the Bronx.

Occultism

She and her older sister Alma are increasingly interested in the occult. In the spring of 1918, she visited Aleister Crowley, who in Greenwich Village, Manhattan lived at that time. Crowley felt Hirsig immediately deeply connected and painted several portraits of her.

From 1919, Crowley called it Alostrael, the uterus (or: the Grail ) of God.

Previously Hirsig was married to Edwars Hammond, with whom she had a son, Hans Hammond.

In Cefalù, Italy, she helped Crowley at the foundation of the Abbey of Thelema.

With Crowley Hirsig had a daughter, Anna Leah Crowley, called Poupée.

After Crowley

After Crowley had left her, she married William George Barron, with whom she had a son, Alexander Barron.

Finally, she took her job as a teacher in the U.S. again.

Hirsig died on 22 February 1975 in Meiringen, Switzerland.

In popular culture

In Robert Garofalo documentary In Search of the Great Beast Leah Hirsig is played by Nathalie Hughes.

In the film Perdurabo (2003) by Carlos Atanes it is played by Marta Timon.

Lynn Rice Mastio it plays in Vincent Jennings Abbey of Thelema Movie (2007).
