Lednica, Púchov District

Lednica ( until the 19th century Slovak " Lednice "; Lednitz German, Hungarian Lednic ) is a city and a municipality in the north- west of Slovakia, with 978 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011), which in Okres Púchov (part of the Trenčín Region ) lies.

Geography

The municipality is located in the White Carpathians, near the Czech border in the valley of the brook Lednica. The center is located at an altitude of 398 m nm and is 16 kilometers from Púchov as well as 38 km from Trenčín.

History

The place along with the castle Lednica were first mentioned in writing in 1259. The castle was built as a royal fortress on the northwestern border of the Kingdom of Hungary and Related, manor comprised the climax in 1600 26 villages. 1462 Lednica was given the right to become a town, and to lead its own coat of arms three years later. Towards the end of the 16th century Wallachian colonization reached the place.
