Lee Falk

Lee Falk (actually: Leon Harrison Gross, born April 28, 1911 in St. Louis, Missouri, † March 13, 1999 in New York City, New York) was an American comic book writer and signatory. He gained particular notoriety by the Phantom and Mandrake the Magician comics.

Life and work

Falk, who already wrote in high school and college for school magazines at the University of Illinois, found after graduating a job as a copywriter for an advertising agency in St. Louis. His work took him along with Phil Davis, with whom he created the comic strip Mandrake the Magician in 1934. The success of Mandrake the Magician, who was Falk's first comic work, prompted him to start together with the artist Ray Moore in 1936, the Phantom comic series, which was also distributed by King Features Syndicate.

From the 1960s, Falk operated as a novelist when he wrote several novels phantom; . Playwright he 'd been before. In 1986 Falk, the father of three children, was the Silver T- Square of the National Cartoonists Society. He worked until his ninth decade of life as a comic book author.
