Lee Vining, California

Lee Vining is a census -designated place in Mono County, California, United States. It lies at an altitude of 2067 m on the western shore of Mono Lake with Sierra Nevada, and in 2000 had 250 inhabitants. It is named after Leroy Vining, who was one of the first white men came in the 1850s in the region, to search for mineral resources. When he was unsuccessful, he turned to forestry.

The place is in north-south direction developed by the U.S. Highway US-395 and is located on Highway about 40km south of Bridgeport and 45 km north of Mammoth Lakes. The town thrives on tourism and benefited from its location on the eastern flank of the Sierra Nevada below the eastern entrance to Yosemite National Park, which is reached by Lee Vining on the 3031 m high Tioga Pass. Other tourist destinations in the region are the ghost town of Bodie, the June Lake and streams with a high value for the sport of fishing, and in winter the ski resorts at June Mountain and Mammoth Mountain.
