Leigh Halfpenny

Leigh Halfpenny ( born December 22, 1988 in Swansea ) is a Welsh rugby union player who plays for the Cardiff Blues and for the Welsh national team. It is used on the positions of wings and full goalkeeper.

Halfpenny spent his youth at Neath RFC from his hometown. He went through all the youth teams and took part in this Six Nations tournaments and world championships of different ages. For the season 2007/ 08 he moved to Cardiff RFC. Because of its outstanding performance in the U20 World Cup, he was appointed to the cadre of blues and came against Ulster in May 2008 to its first use in the Magners League. In the 2008 /09 season, he secured a regular place, put in the first six games, seven trials and was therefore also included in the ranks of the national team. His debut for Wales he was 8 November 2008 against South Africa, and was appointed to the permanent staff of the squad. With the Blues in 2009 he succeeded in winning the EDF Energy Cup.

On 21 April 2009, he was nominated by Ian McGeechan after just six appearances for the British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa. He could not take the tour first and only traveled to the match against the Free State Cheetahs. Soon, however, he had to leave due to re- injury.
