Leizu

Leizu (嫘 祖, Léizǔ ) or Cangu (蚕 姑/蚕 姑, Cángū ) is in Chinese mythology, the wife or concubine of Huangdi, the Yellow Emperor. Also it is considered as a great inventor.

It is called " Cangu Goddess" or " Silkworm Goddess" (蚕 姑 圣母, Cángū shèngmǔ ) worshiped. The usefulness of the originally wild silkworm was the people do not initially known. Leizu taught them how to cultivate the silkworm, abzuhaspeln silk threads from the cocoons and weaving silk. From then on, originated in China, the silk culture.

The cult of the Silkworm Mother is still to be found in Hebei Province in the region of Baoding. The " Cangu - nainai Temple " ( Cangu ta蚕 姑 坨or Cangu nainai miao蚕 姑奶奶 庙) in Yi County was built in the time of the Northern Wei Dynasty. It is located on the north side of Langya Shan (狼牙山).
