Lela Rochon

Lela Rochon ( born April 17, 1964 in Los Angeles as Lela Rochon Staples ) is an American actress.

Life and achievements

Rochon graduated in 1982, the California Cerritos High School. She made her debut in a small supporting role in the musical film Breakin ' of 1984, in which Adolfo Quinones played one of the major roles. In the comedy Harlem Nights (1989 ) she starred opposite Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor. In 1995, she starred opposite John Witherspoon in the television series The Wayans Bros..

Rochon starred in the comedy Waiting to Exhale (1995 ) alongside Whitney Houston and Angela Bassett one of the major roles for which she was nominated for the 1996 MTV Movie Award and the Image Award. In the action-comedy The Big Hit (1998) she played the role of Chantel, one of two friends of Melvin Smiley, the Mark Wahlberg played. In the film drama Any Given Sunday (1999) by Oliver Stone, she appeared alongside Al Pacino and Cameron Diaz.

Rochon was married in 1984 to 1987 with the actor Adolfo Quinones. In 1999 she married the director Antoine Fuqua, with whom she has three children.
