Lennart Ã…berg

Lennart Åberg ( born February 26, 1942 in Helsingborg) is a Swedish jazz saxophonist, flutist and composer.

In 1966 he played with the Swedish Radio Jazz Group, whose artistic director he was at times, and at which recordings he was involved ( Terje Rypdal Odyssey: In Studio & In Concert ). In 1972 he was a founding member of the fusion group Rena Rama. He played with jazz musicians such as George Russell, the Red Mitchell Quartet, Bob Brookmeyer, Don Cherry, Clark Terry, Kenny Wheeler, Billy Hart, John Scofield, Palle Mikkel Borg and Carla Bley. Next he played in Bosse Broberg Nogenjo, in the quartet of Arne Domnérus and Okay Temiz Group Oriental Wind.

He led his own quartet and its own big band ( albums Partial Solar Eclipse on JAPO 1977 Green Prints, Caprice, 1986, Seven Pieces, Phono Suecia, 2000), for which he also composed. In the Lennart Åberg Seven Pieces Big Band trumpeters January Kohlin, Magnus Broo, Bosse Broberg play; the trombonist Bertil beach mountain, Mattias Cederberg; the flugelhorn player Tommy Knutsson; saxophonists Håkan Broström, David Wilcewski, Lennart Åberg and Alberto Pinton; Mattias Ståhl vibraphone, David Karlsson piano, bass and Jonas Holgersson Christian Speering drums.

He taught jazz history at the Royal College of Music ( KMH ) in Stockholm. In 2002 he received the Django d' Or ( Sweden) as Contemporary Star of Jazz.
