Lenny White

Lenny White, actually: Leonard White III ( born December 19, 1949 in New York) is an American jazz-rock drummer. Best known he was the drummer of the band Return to Forever by Chick Corea.

He taught as a teenager playing himself in, then appeared in a few local bands, was with George Cables and Clint Houston to house band Slug 's Saloon, before he starred regularly in the late sixties with Jackie McLean. In 1969 he played with Miles Davis on the album Bitches Brew, which was taken directly after the Woodstock Festival in just three days. The album was very unusual, has been controversial, but sold outstanding and is today regarded as the nucleus of fusion music.

In 1973 he went to the band Return to Forever. When the group disbanded in 1976, began his career as a bandleader. He has since produced more than thirteen albums, which, however, not able to build on his great successes with Miles Davis and Chick Corea.

White has played in the course of his work with many famous jazz musicians, including Geri Allen ( The Gathering 1998), Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Woody Shaw, Gato Barbieri, Gil Evans, Andrew Hill, Stanley Clarke, Hiromi Uehara, Jaco Pastorius and Stan Getz.

In 1990 he was involved in the music for the film House Party.
