Leo Bertos

Leo Bertos (actually Leonidas Bertos, born December 20, 1981 in Wellington ) is a New Zealand football player of Greek origin, who is currently the New Zealand top club FC Wellington Phoenix under contract. He is also a New Zealand international.

Career

After Bertos had spent several years in the lower leagues of England at clubs like Barnsley, Chester, Rochdale and York City, he moved to Australia to Perth Glory. In the A-League Bertos was a regular in the first team to use, initially for two years in Perth and then at Wellington Phoenix. Although one rarely finds his name on the scoresheet, he has prepared numerous goals in the national team and also in the club. The 2009/10 season was by far the most successful for Bertos ' club Wellington Phoenix, who played repeatedly before record scenes and as the first New Zealand club reached the final of the A-League. Bertos was instrumental in this success, as he came in every game, a field that aufstellte also a new club record in terms of the number of assists.

Bertos played since 2003 in the New Zealand national team, and participated at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and the World Cup 2010.
