Léon Théry

Léon Théry (* April 16, 1879, † March 8, 1909 ) was a French racing driver.

Life

Théry came as a mechanic with the Motorsport in touch, but sat down soon himself behind the steering wheel. His first appearance was the Paris- Bordeaux 1899. By 1903, he scored on decauville respectable results, but no peak results. This changed in 1904 with the change to the team of Richard - Brasier, which was to Brasier 1905.

He knew how to place like no other, to be constant instead of reckless speed. When Gordon Bennett race in 1904, the time difference between its fastest and slowest round its just three minutes was - at a distance of 128 km a brilliant performance. So he could win this race and repeat his victory in the Gordon Bennett race in 1905.

Like other racing drivers, he tried to put his own mark on the legs, the car " Théry " but never came across the project phase out. At the GP of France in 1908 saw him again at the wheel of Brasier, he was parted from, however. This race was the last of his career, since 1909, he died of tuberculosis at the age of 29. His final resting place he found in the Père Lachaise Cemetery.
