Leontodon

Rough Dandelion ( Leontodon hispidus )

Dandelion ( leontodon ), even milkweed or dandelion stem called, is a genus of flowering plants in the sunflower family ( Asteraceae). He should not be confused with the ordinary dandelion another genus belonging.

Description

Leontodon species are annual to perennial herbaceous plants reach heights of growth from 10 to 80 cm depending on the type. The simple or branched stems are hairy or smooth. The winged petiolate leaves are borne in basal rosettes. The leaf blade is simple to pinnately lobed. The leaf margin is smooth, toothed or lobed. The leaves are smooth or hairy.

The bloom conditions are individually or to two to five. The 16 to 20 bracts are in at least two rows; they are smooth or hairy. The convex inflorescence base has no chaff leaves. The flower heads have a diameter of 4 to 15 mm and contain only 20 to 30 florets. The ray florets are yellow to orange, the outer sometimes with reddish or greenish stripes.

The light to dark or reddish- brown achene has ten to 14 ribs. In contrast to the well-known, also called genre " dandelion " Taraxacum the achenes are beaked, that is, the pappus is not sitting on a stalk. The yellowish- white to light brown bristles of the pappus are also available with little hairs busy ( pinnate ); they are in one or two rows. The bristles of the outer ring can be reduced to bristle shed.
