Lephalale ( Ellisras earlier ) in the town of Lephalale, Waterberg District is a city in the South African province of Limpopo. 2011, it had 17 639 inhabitants. It is situated in the Waterberg Mountains.

The river flowing through the city area Lephalale was eponymous. The city as Ellisras, according to the former owners of the local farms, Patrick Ellis and Piet Erasmus, founded in 1960, is best known for their distinctive coal resources and their degradation. So also the largest dry -cooled coal-fired power plant in the world is ( 6x800 MW) in Lephalale. The Medupi power station under construction in addition to up to 4,500 megawatts capacity. Completion is scheduled for 2015.

Another important industry is tourism. Within the township of Lephalale live about 105,000 people.
