Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil

Les Eyzies -de- Tayac- Sireuil is a municipality with 827 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) France in the Dordogne, in the Aquitaine region.

Geography

The municipality is situated on the banks of the River Vézère.

The community is also known for its many prehistoric sites, such as:

  • Abri de Cro- Magnon: archaeological site of the Cro -Magnons.
  • La Micoque ( Gisement de la Micoque ): here there are numerous examples of stone processing from the Paleolithic.
  • Abri Pataud: the visit of the archaeological site gives an insight into the different settlement periods of the cave. The most important object is the bas-relief of an ibex, which adorned the ceiling of the cave. The instructional design of artefacts provides an overview of the stages of development of prehistoric people.
  • Laugerie -Basse, Laugerie -Haute: These caves were found prehistoric dwelling places.
  • Gorge d' Enfer: in this valley of the Vézère, there are several famous Upper Palaeolithic find spots.
  • Combarelles and Font de Gaume -: Two major cave images of the Upper Paleolithic, about 3 km from the resort. Facilities within the area several rock shelters (half- caves ) with Palaeolithic sites of the Magdalenian, including Abri Audi, Abri Chadourne, Abri Pataud, Gorge d' Enfer ( with a bas-relief of a fish on the ceiling).
  • National Museum of Prehistory ( National Museum of Prehistory ). Here you will find a collection of the numerous archaeological discoveries throughout the region.
