Les Nabis

The artist group the Nabis was founded in the years 1888/1889 of a rebellious group of young art students of the Académie Julian in Paris and lasted until 1905. Your Head, Paul Sérusier, belonged to the circle around Paul Gauguin and came from the School of Pont -Aven. The artist group is attributed to the post- impressionism.

The affiliated artists have been known by the diversity of media used. In addition to painting and sculpture, she also worked with printing techniques, poster design, book illustrations, fabrics, furniture and stage sets. They were also influential as illustrators in the field of graphic art. Some of the Nabis were influenced by the Japanese woodblock print.

The name Nabi is derived from the Hebrew word for prophet who coined the term Henri Cazalis.
