Lester Frank Ward

Lester Frank Ward ( born June 18, 1841 in Joliet, Illinois, † April 18, 1913 in Washington, DC) was an American sociologist and important founding father of American sociology and first president of the American Sociological Association.

Life and work

Based on its progress assumption, it was assumed social hardship and poverty could be minimized through well-planned government intervention, which is based on the Meliorism, here in the understanding of a science of improving society. A meddling in social and economic life of American society sociology should regulate competition that connect people on the basis of equality and cooperation, and the happiness and freedom of all promote.
