Lev Lemke

Lew Isaakowitsch Lemke (Russian Лев Исаакович Лемке; born August 25, 1931August 4, 1996 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Soviet and Russian theater and cinema actor, who received the award of Honored Artist of Russia.

Biography

Lev Lemke was born into a family of Jewish faith. In 1959 he graduated from drama school in Dnepropetrovsk. Then he worked at the New Theatre of the miniatures in Moscow, where he played mostly small roles. In 1962, the actor moved to Leningrad and worked at the Leningrad Comedy Theatre, where he rose to become one of the leading persons of the local troupe. From 1962 he also got first film roles, but his breakthrough as a movie actor he succeeded only in the 1970s and 1980s. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, he entered only rarely. Lev Lemke was known for his stage works, he also appeared with poetic evenings, attended outdoor concerts, held on with Inszenesetzen.

He died in 1996 shortly before his 65th birthday in Saint-Petersburg. He left behind his five years younger wife Valentina Vladimirovna Drosdowskaja, long time news anchor at Leningrad - Channel 5, 1998, also died.
