Lewis Lockwood

Lewis H. Lockwood ( born December 16, 1930 in New York) is an American musicologist.

Life

Lockwood taught from 1958 to 1980 at Princeton University, and from 1980 to 2002 at Harvard University, where he held the position of Fanny Peabody Research Professor of Music. From 1964 to 1967 he was editor of the Journal of the American Musicological Society, and from 1987 to 1988 president of the American Musicological Society.

His main research interests are the music of the Italian Renaissance as well as the life and work of Ludwig van Beethoven. He has published over 100 articles and several books.

2005 Lockwood donated the Lewis Lockwood Award of the American Musicological Society.
