Li Yundi

Li Yundi (Chinese李云迪, Pinyin lǐ Yundi, IPA: [ lì jy̌nd̥ǐ ] ) ( born October 7, 1982 in Chongqing, People's Republic of China) is a Chinese pianist.

Life

Li began playing at the age of four years accordion. At age seven he began piano lessons for the first time. Li won several scholarships, through which he was able to afford his studies.

In October 2000, he won first prize at the International Chopin Competition. This success helped him to a recording contract with Deutsche Grammophon. In 2001 he continued his studies at the Academy of Music and Theatre in Hanover at the piano pedagogues Arie Vardi continued. The following year, he released his first CD with pieces by Chopin. Since March 2004 he gave concerts in which he mostly plays works by Chopin and Liszt.
