Liam T. Cosgrave

Liam Thomas Cosgrave, Junior ( Irish: Tomás Mac Liam Cosgair ) ( born April 30, 1956) is an Irish Fine Gael politician.

Biography

Cosgrave came from an influential political family. His grandfather William Thomas Cosgrave was 1922-1932 first President of the Executive Council and de facto prime minister of the Irish Free State, while his father Liam Cosgrave was not only foreign and defense ministers, but also Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ). After school he studied law and even then worked as a solicitor.

His political career began in 1981 when he was elected as a Fine Gael candidate for a member of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ) and in that the constituency of Dun Laoghaire represented until his election defeat in 1987. Then he ran both 1989 and 1992 again unsuccessfully for the House of Commons.

He was elected a member of the Senate ( Seanad Éireann ) in 1989 and represented now to 2002, the industrial and finance group, called the Industrial and Commercial Panel. Between 27 November 1996 and 11 September 1997, he was Cathaoirleach and therefore President of the Senate. He was subsequently appointed on 18 September 1997 until his retirement from the Senate on 11 September 2002 Vice- President of the Senate ( Leas - Chathaoirleach ).

In 1999 he became a member of the County Council ( County Council ) of Dun Laoghaire - Rathdown and was elected to this until 2004, when he failed again with another candidate for the lower house in the election on 17 May 2002.

Last Cosgrave was entangled in corruption scandals and was sentenced after a guilty plea on 26 May 2006 to 75 hours of community service. A method for non-transparent land transactions had not been completed in late fall 2010.
