Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown

Dun Laoghaire - Rathdown ( Irish: Dún Laoghaire - Rath at Dúin ) is a county in the Republic of Ireland. It is not one of the 26 historic counties of the country but established on 1 January 1994 when the County Dublin was divided administratively. The double name should only be a temporary original; until today it has, however, can not agree on a different name.

Geography

Dun Laoghaire - Rathdown is the geographically smallest county in Ireland. It extends southeast of the city of Dublin from the Irish Sea to the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains. In the south and west it is bordered by the counties Wicklow and South Dublin.

Traffic

The most important connections with Dublin, the DART rail link along the coast and the green Luas line. Dun Laoghaire is an important ferry port. The connection to Holyhead in North Wales is a popular route for tourists traveling by car to Ireland.
