History

On September 1, 1947 Libercourt was spun by decree of the Conseil d' État from the community Carvin. Already in April 1890 the inhabitants of the village had called in a script independence of Libercourt. At this time the place had 900 inhabitants. The distance to the neighboring village of Carvin was about five kilometers, also the two places were separated by an approximately two -mile-wide strip of woods. On 18 July 1890, the prefect demanded by decree an examination of the division of the community. However, this was answered negatively by the local council Carvin because Libercourt had neither a school nor their own administrative structures. 1897 a new attempt was started to detach Libercourt from Carvin, but was rejected again in March 1900 by the authorities. A petition in October 1925 reached 481 signatures, but was unsuccessful. 1937 ordered the prefect to a new survey, there were 1090 inhabitants of the place for a self-employment of the community, this failed but again the council of Carvin. On April 2 of 1947, also voted for the independence of this Libercourt.
