Liberty Hyde Bailey

Liberty Hyde Bailey ( born March 15, 1858 in South Haven (Michigan), USA, † December 15, 1954 in Ithaca ) was an American botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " LHBailey ".

Life and work

Bailey studied and taught at Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University ), and later at Cornell University, where he became director of the agricultural science department. He co-founded the American Society for Horticultural Science.

He wrote a number of books, including scientific works and intelligible books on botany and also poems.

Honors

In his honor, the genera Baileya plant sunflower family ( Asteraceae) and Liberbaileya of the palm family ( Arecaceae ) were named.

The Journal Baileya is also named after him.

The Michigan State University awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1907.
