Lieutenant Kijé (Prokofiev)

Lieutenant Kishe (Russian Поручик Киже, Poruchik Kizhe, French: Lieutenant Kijé ) is one of Sergei Prokofiev ( 1891-1953 ) in 1933 and written film music for a satirical novella by Yuri Nikolayevich Tynjanow ( 1894-1943 ), which was created in 1927. In the plot is about the excessive bureaucracy under Tsar Paul I. The movie premiere took place in Moscow on March 7, 1934. The film and its director Aleksandr Fajntsimmer forgotten.

After that Prokofiev composed a suite, which exists in two versions. Once with a baritone voice and the other for saxophone, which also serves as music for the ballet of the same name. The premiere took place on December 21, 1934 in a shipment of Moscow Radio. The first performance in a concert took place on 20 February 1937 Prokofiev line in Paris, why has international naturalized the French spelling of the name " Kijé ".

The 4th movement is often used as a musical Christmas motif or background music of snowfall. Parts of the music are by Sting ( Russians ), Woody Allen ( The last night of Love and Death ), Emerson, Lake and Palmer (I Believe In Father Christmas ), Magnum, Blood, Sweat & Tears ( 40,000 headmen ); Yes ( Something's Coming ) and others.
