Lightnin' Slim

Lightnin 'Slim ( Otis Hicks actually; * March 13, 1913 in St. Louis, Missouri; † 27 July 1974) was an American blues guitarist and singer, an important representative of the Swamp Blues.

Born on a farm near St. Louis, Missouri, Lightnin 'Slim moved at the age of 13 years with his family to St. Francisville in Louisiana. His brother taught him how to play the guitar, even if only rudimentary. In the 1940s he joined in Baton Rouge on with Arthur Kelly. During the 1950s and 1960s, he often played with his brother Slim Harpo. During this time he made several recordings.

The mid 1960s moved Lightnin 'Slim to Detroit. The American Folk Blues Festival, he toured in Europe. In 1972 he performed at the Jazz Festival in Montreux. In 1973, he was with the American Blues Legend Tour go ( recordings released on Big Bear Records).

Lightnin 'Slim died of cancer in 1974. He is in Pontiac, Michigan, buried.

Among the pieces of Lightnin 'Slim include Rooster Blues ( 1959), Bad Luck Blues, Just Made Twenty-one, Lonesome Cabin Blues, Nobody Loves Me But My Mother and voodoo blues.
