Lila Bell Wallace

Lila Wallace ( really Lila Bell Acheson, born December 25, 1889 in Virden, Canada, † May 8, 1984 in Mount Kisco, New York) was an American publisher.

Life

Lila Bell Acheson was born into a Presbyterian family, and studied at the University of Oregon, where she graduated in 1917 with success. She has taught at schools and worked alongside at the Young Women's Christian Association. On October 15, 1921 she married in Greenwich Village DeWitt Wallace and founded with him a year later the newspaper Reader 's Digest, whose first issue was published on February 5, 1922. Lila Wallace died of complications from Alzheimer 's disease.
