Lillian Board

Lillian Barbara Board (born 13 December 1948 in Durban, South Africa, † December 26, 1970 in Munich) was a British 400-meter runner and middle distance runner.

Lillian Board won the silver medal in the 400 m race behind Colette Besson ( FRA ) and before Natalya Petschonkina (URS ) at the Summer Olympic Games in Mexico in 1968. There they ran British record with a time of 52.12 seconds. At the European Championships in 1969 in Athens, she won both the 800m as well as with the 4 × 400 m relay gold medal. Unforgettable is doing her performance on the anchor leg of the British squadron in the duel with the French squadron, whose final leg of the Olympic champion in 1968, Colette Besson was. In 1970 she was badly bruised and health plagued by stomach pain. On November 7, 1970, she went to the Ringberg Clinic in Rottach- Egern to be treated there, but her condition worsened. At Christmas 1970 Lillian Board died at the age of 22 years in the University of Munich.

The Lillian Board Walk in Olympic Park in Munich was named after her.
