Lilydale or Lillydale?

Prior to the amalgamation of various municipalities to Yarra Ranges Shire 1994 suburban Lilydale was ( with an L ) the Lillydale Shire assigned (with two L). It is believed that the spelling " Lillydale " simply a clerical error was in setting up the Shire in 1872, which was never corrected and is still used today for everything that has to do with the Lillydale Shire, thus also for the Lillydale Lake and the Museum of Lillydale. Anything that has to do with the city of Lilydale is still written with a L.
