Olinda Creek

The Olinda Creek is a creek in the southern Australian state of Victoria and a major tributary of the Yarra River. Its sources are in the Dandenongs, then it flows (a suburb of Melbourne today ) and finally at Coldstream in the Yarra River through Lilydale.
History and Naming
When European settlers arrived in southern Australia, they moved the valley of the Olinda Creek (then 'Running Creek ' because of its year-round water flow ) up. The official naming process began when John Hardy 1859/1860 came to the settlement of Lilydale. When he gave his name to this settlement, he also called the Running Creek to search for the daughter, ' Alice Olinda '' the Deputy Surveyor - General Clement Hodgkinson in Olinda Creek.
Lillydale Lake
Between 1988 and 1990, a dam in the creek south of Lilydale, at the Lillydale Lake was dammed arose. This lake provides flood protection for the below-, Bach settlements. Lakeside are important wetlands and it is also used as a destination.
