Limonlu is a municipality in the district of the Turkish province of Mersin Erdemli.

Limonlu is located in the south of the county on the Mediterranean Sea on the highway D-400, about nine kilometers southwest of Erdemli and 45 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital of Mersin. Besides agriculture, the tourism today the main source of income of the village dar.

Empties into the Limonlu Limonlu Çayı (antique Lamos ), which in ancient times the boundary between the levels ( Cilicia Pedias ) and the Rough Cilicia ( Cilicia Tracheia ) was formed, into the sea. On a low hill on the west bank, about 500 feet in front of the mouth, is the medieval castle Lamos Kalesi. The place is already mentioned under the name Lamos in Strabo, of the ancient settlement, however, almost no traces remain. North of the village leads from the river, which also named Lamos in ancient times, an aqueduct to the westerly cities Elaiussa Sebaste and Korykos. The surroundings of the place was in ancient times the name Lamotis.

To the east of Limonlu the Institute of Marine Sciences ( Deniz Bilimleri Enstitüsü ) is home to the University of Technology in the Middle East of Ankara.

Attractions

Near the castle Lamos Kalesi a road leads into the interior, which leads to the Byzantine church of Batısandal and further to the late Roman site Öküzlü.
