Lionel Escombe

Lionel Hunter Escombe (* 1876 in the Colony of Natal, South Africa, † October 15, 1914 in London) was a British tennis player.

Life

Escombe took from 1899 to tournaments in England in part. In 1907 he reached the men's singles at the Wimbledon Championships the quarterfinals.

He participated in the competition hall of the 1908 Olympic Games in London in part, but different from the individual already in the first round. In doubles, he penetrated to the side of Josiah Ritchie to the semifinals, the two documents there but Arthur Gore and Herbert Roper Barrett. The subsequent 3rd place match they had to give lost to the Swedes Wollmarshöhe Boström and Gunnar Setter Wall, so they only finished fourth.

At his last appearance at the Wimbledon Championships in 1909 he was again able to reach the quarter-finals, but had to retire against Herbert Roper Barrett at a score of 1:2 sets. He then ended his tennis career.

Escombe died in 1914 in London's Brentford.
