Lisa Shoman

Lisa M. Shoman (born 1964 ) is a diplomat and politician from Belize.

Biography

After attending primary school and secondary school in Belize, she studied law at the University of the West Indies in Mona and at the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica. In October 1988 she was admitted as a lawyer and became the Kronanwältin ( Crown Counsel ) appointed in the headmaster's office for public accusations before they started after one year working as a lawyer in a law firm. As such, it was in 1996 also elected the first female president of the Bar Association of Belize. Later it was from 1998 to 2000 CEO of Belize Telecommunications Limited.

Shoman 2000 was ambassador to the United States and was at the same time as the Permanent Representative of the Organization of American States (OAS ) accredited.

Subsequently, she was appointed by Prime Minister Said Musa Minister of Foreign Affairs on 5 June 2007 and held this post until the end of Musa's tenure on February 8, 2008.

At the same time, she was appointed in 2008 as a member of the Senate. In 2009 she was also nominated by opposition leader John Briceño for the Senate. In the Senate, she fought for civil rights and opponent of interceptions against crime.

In December 2009, she was also Chief Justice Dr. Abdulai Conteh, awarded by the President of the Supreme Court, with the rank of Senior Counsel.
