List of heads of state of Mozambique

President of Mozambique ( Portuguese: Presidente de Moçambique ) is the official title of the head of state of the southeast African country of Mozambique. Since the country's independence in 1975 there have been three incumbents in a total of seven terms. After the accidental death ( possibly death by assassination ) of the first incumbent Samora Machel on 19 October 1986, also used for several weeks a provisional government in the not awarded the Office of the President and his duties were divided. All presidents were previously a member of the party since Libertação Frente de Moçambique ( FRELIMO ).

Since 1994 the President of Mozambique are determined by general elections.

The provisional government of 1986 were: Marcelino dos Santos, Joaquim Chissano, Joaquim Alberto chip Ande, Armando Guebuza, Jorge Rebelo, Mariano de Araújo Matsinhe, Sebastião Marcos Mabote, Jacinto Soares Veloso, Mário da Graça Machungo and José Óscar Monteiro
