List of linguistic example sentences
The following list of word repetitions collects known word repetitions. Juxtapositions of similar words are used in many languages as a stylistic device or word games. In natural language, the length of the figures is limited, as this would affect intelligibility. Longer repetitions result in use of homophones ( same sounding words ), homographs ( same written words ) or of metalanguage ( language about language ). Then grammatically correct sentences of any length are possible.

- The Japanese Emperor Saga is said to have been tested in the early 9th century scholars Ono no Takamura with the following pun, if he could read it :子 子 子 子 子 子 子 子 子 子 子 子. Here the character子is repeated twelve times, but it will read differently: In the Kun - reading plans for the Chinese Zodiac sign of the Rat, in the usual Kun - reading ko for " child ", and in the On- reading shi or in word inside voiced as ji. - Zhao Yuanrens text " lion -eating poet in the stone cave " is written in classical Chinese and consists of 92 characters, which all have the reading shi, but with different tones.
