List of Presidents of Namibia
The President of the Republic of Namibia (English President of the Republic of Namibia ) is in accordance with the Namibian Constitution, the head of state Republic of Namibia. The president is elected by direct popular vote for five years and therefore requires more than 50 percent of the vote. Re-election is permitted only once, and due to a constitutional amendment, a one-time exception for the founding President Sam Nujoma was created.
The President appoints and dismisses the Prime Minister as head of government as well as other ministers and judges. In addition, the President determines the guidelines of the policy and is commander in chief of the army.
An impeachment is possible only on the basis of a constitutional violation or a serious violation of the laws.
