List of Quebec senators

The list of senators from Quebec Canada shows all current and former members of the Canadian Senate from the province of Quebec. The province is represented by 24 senators.

Quebec is the only province in which the special Senate seats divisions are allocated. The 24 divisions are required by the Constitution Act of 1867, defined its boundaries in the Consolidated Statutes of Canada from 1859. The boundaries of the divisions were then set so that the English-speaking minority was adequately represented. Since then, they never are, however, been changed, so large areas of the north, which formerly belonged to the Northwest Territories, are not really represented. As a senator but not necessarily have to live in it represents division, the division has a purely formal character today; However, it must also land worth $ 4,000 have (this value has also never changed). See also Senate divisions.

Relying on Article 26 of the Constitution appointed Prime Minister Brian Mulroney in 1980 per senatorial region two additional senators. In addition to Quebec, these are the regions of Western Canada, Ontario and Maritimes. This regulation came today only once for use. The two additional senators from Quebec were not bound to the specified division graduation.
