List of Swiss federal referendums

The list of federal referenda shows all referendums at the federal level since the founding of the modern Swiss federal state in 1848. Voting came as a result of popular initiatives (marked I), mandatory referendums (marked O) or optional referendums (marked F) able. Because the federal popular initiative such is always to change the Constitution ( and not of laws ), they needed to believe in addition to the folk of the cantons (BV 140 I lit. A), six cantons (former half-cantons called ) for historical reasons thereby only have half a cantonal vote. The same goes for mandatory referendums, as these necessary by Parliament to be on change of Constitution ( 140 I lit. A).

Optional referendums, however, relate to federal laws that require the adoption of only the people Mehrs (BV 140 I lit. A).
